1.Start taking vitamin D supplements.

We get most of our vitamin D from the sun, so when it gets colder, we get less because we spend most of our time indoors in the fall and winter. If you find yourself rarely going outside, vitamin D supplements can improve your mood and immune system!

2.Take time for yourself.

In autumn and winter, the Earth tells us to slow down. Start writing in a journal or recording your emotions to get in touch with your feelings.

3. Get a flu shot and get an annual physical.

It speaks for itself! No one likes a stuffy nose, sore, sneezing or coughing to get in the way of life.

4.Boost your immune system.

You can do this by drinking plenty of water, washing your hands frequently to prevent illness and eating nutritious foods.

5.Get ready for daylight Saving time.

Go to bed as early as possible, especially in the week before your schedule changes. Longer darkness = longer sleep!

6.Make plans for the colder months.

In winter, if there is nothing to keep us busy, we tend to hibernate.

7.Moisturize your skin.

Bad temperatures can dry out your skin. Also, wear sunscreen.

8.Buy seasonal foods.

Beets, broccoli, cabbage, eggplant, kale, squash, broth, roasted squash, roots and dark green leafy vegetables are all good choices.

9.Stay active!

It's easy to sit all day, but it's important to get some exercise throughout the day. Raking leaves or shoveling snow counts!

10.Wear layers of clothing to protect your body from falling temperatures.

Make sure you have gloves, scarves, earmuffs, winter clothes, thermal socks, and uggs!

11. Do some "spring cleaning" in the fall.

Clean out your closet, organize the back room, and get rid of things you don't need.

12. Be prepared for possible extreme weather conditions.

Do you have a shovel and/or snow blower? Do you have batteries for your flashlight? Is your heating all right?

13. Find some books and watch some shows.

Who doesn't want to sit by the fire on a cold winter night with a good book or a few episodes of Netflix?

14.Set a schedule.

The cold months seem to be lengthening, pushing us into isolation. Set aside time each day to do things you enjoy.

15.Be kind to yourself.

Holidays can lead to weight gain, shorter days can lead to depression, and flu season can lead to illness. Listen to your body and give it what it needs. Don't beat yourself up! Try to turn negative thoughts into positive ones.
